Can you talk to Claude or Gemini out loud?

Short answer

Yes. Claude has a voice mode on every plan, including Free, in its phone apps, desktop app and on the web, though Anthropic still calls it a beta. Gemini Live lets you talk with Gemini in its mobile app, interrupt it, and show it your camera or screen; Google says Live isn't in the Gemini web app. Voice chats on Claude count toward the same usage limits as typing.

Which products can do it?

  • Anthropic ClaudeYes

Anthropic says Claude's voice mode works on the iOS and Android apps, Claude Desktop and the web, on every plan including Free.

Good to know: Anthropic labels it a beta, and non-English languages are still in beta. Voice chats use your normal usage limits; Free can connect one tool in voice mode.

  • Google GeminiYes

Google says Gemini Live lets you hold a spoken conversation with Gemini in its mobile app, interrupt it, and turn on your camera or share your screen.

Good to know: Needs a signed-in Google Account. Not in the Gemini web app, can't start from a locked screen, and Gems don't work in Live.

Why it matters

Typing long questions on a phone is slow, and people want to talk to an assistant while walking, driving or cooking, without paying extra just for voice.
