Can Claude edit your Google Docs and Sheets directly?
Short answer
Yes. Anthropic's Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors let Claude create Google files and edit them live in a pane next to the chat, while you edit at the same time. Live editing works on the web in Chrome and in Claude Desktop with its built-in browser; elsewhere you open the file in Google. In Docs, Claude can also work with comments and suggestions. Say "Google Doc" or "Google Sheet" in your request; a plain "doc" gets you a downloadable file instead.

Good to know: Per Anthropic's help article. Live pane only on the web in Chrome or in Claude Desktop; on Team and Enterprise an owner must enable the connectors first. It reads text, not images inside Docs.
Why it matters
Copying text from a chatbot into a shared doc or spreadsheet loses formatting and wastes time; people want the assistant to work in the file itself.
Not proven yet
How well it handles large or heavily formatted sheets; we found no independent test. Claude can't add charts to Google Slides, and Slides edits may not appear live.

"Use Google Workspace connectors" help article (read Nov 1, 2026; shown as updated the day before): the Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive connectors are available to all users on Claude and Claude Desktop; on Team and Enterprise an owner enables them first. Gmail: search, read and draft email, and send, reply and forward, with Claude asking for approval before each by default; attachment contents aren't read. Calendar: view events, create, update and delete them, find mutual free time, respond to invitations and set up recurring meetings. Separate Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors let Claude create files and edit them live in a pane beside the chat on the web in Chrome or in Claude Desktop, and work with Docs comments and suggestions. Claude can't add charts to Slides, and Slides edits may not show live.
