Can Claude send emails from your Gmail or Outlook?

Short answer

Yes, once you connect your account, and it asks first. Anthropic's help center says Claude's Gmail connector can draft, send, reply to and forward email, with Claude asking for your approval before each send by default. For Outlook, Claude needs a work Microsoft 365 account and an admin who turns on the write tools; personal Outlook.com and Hotmail addresses aren't supported. Neither connector sends attachments: Gmail attachments can't be read, and Outlook mail can't include them.

Answering routine email eats the day; people want an assistant that can write and send the reply, not just draft text to copy and paste.

Not proven yet

Anthropic's own pages disagree: a Claude documentation page still calls the Gmail connector read-only, while the help center (updated Oct 31, 2026) and the marketplace listing include sending. Which plans get Gmail sending is also listed differently. Texts and WhatsApp messages aren't covered by these pages.

    "Connect to Microsoft 365" help article (read Nov 1, 2026): available on all Claude plans, but only for work Microsoft 365 accounts; personal @outlook.com, @hotmail.com and @live.com accounts aren't supported, and a Microsoft Entra Global Administrator must grant one-time consent. Claude can search and read Outlook email, calendar, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams. Write tools only work if an admin enables them: drafting, sending and organizing email (sent mail carries a header marking it as agent-initiated, and attachments aren't supported), creating, updating and deleting calendar events, and creating files.
