Can Claude search the web and open links?
Short answer
Yes. With web search on, Claude searches the web for current information and cites its sources with links. It can also open a specific page you paste in, which Anthropic calls web fetch. Free accounts can use both, but each search and fetch counts toward the usage limit, and long pages use more of it. On Team and Enterprise, an owner has to switch web search on first. Some links may not work.

Not proven yet
Whether web fetch can read YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or other social links; Anthropic's article doesn't mention them, and many such sites block automated access. How accurate Claude's search answers are; we found no independent test.

"Enable and use web search" help article (read Nov 2, 2026, shown as updated over three weeks earlier): Claude can search the web to answer with current information, shows when it's searching, and adds citations with links to its sources. With web search on, it can also fetch the content of specific pages you give it (web fetch). You switch it on with the + button in the chat (the new Claude experience has no toggle and searches when it judges it useful). On Team and Enterprise an owner must enable it for the organization first. Free accounts can use it, but searches and fetches count toward usage limits that reset every five hours, and long pages can use a lot of that limit. Some links may not work. The article doesn't mention YouTube, video or social media.
