Can a smart lock work with any smart home app?
Short answer
Matter locks come closest: Eufy's S3 Max supports Matter today, and Apple's LG lock, due December 2026, works with Matter too, so they aren't tied to one app.
Which products can do it?
- Eufy S3 Max Video Smart LockYes
The S3 Max works with Matter, so it can join smart home apps that support the standard.
Good to know: Its camera stream isn't available over Matter; for video you still need the Eufy app.
- LG Smart Deadbolt Lock (Apple Home Collection)Announced
LG's Apple Home lock works with Matter and keeps working locally without internet.
Good to know: $349.95, on sale from December 2026. Not yet reviewed.
Why it matters
A lock that only works in its maker's app can't join routines with the rest of the house, like turning off lights when you lock up.
Not proven yet
Which features each app gets over Matter; makers often keep extras, like video, in their own app.
