Can a robot mower mow in the rain?

Short answer

They're built for it, but makers disagree on whether they should. Husqvarna says its Automower iQ mows rain or shine; Mammotion's Luba 3 AWD detects rain, and Segway's Navimow pauses and heads home when the forecast turns, to protect the lawn from wet grass.

Segway says the Navimow i Series watches real-time weather forecasts and, when the weather changes significantly, pauses and returns to its dock to protect the lawn from wet grass.

Good to know: Maker's description, from the European site.

Why it matters

Mowers live outside, so owners want to know whether rain will damage the robot or leave a torn, clumped lawn.

How each one cuts wet grass in practice, and whether mowing in the rain hurts the lawn over time; no test in our sources compared them in rain.
