Does a robot mower need Wi-Fi?

Short answer

Not always: many use cellular data instead. Mammotion's Luba 3 AWD has built-in 4G, free for 3 years and then a subscription; Segway's Navimow uses cellular for its positioning at no extra cost; Husqvarna's 410 iQ has cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; Ecovacs' Goat O800 uses Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Which robots can do it?

  • Husqvarna Automower 410 iQYes

Husqvarna lists cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for the Automower 410 iQ, controlled through the Automower Connect app.

Good to know: Maker's spec list; it doesn't say whether cellular use costs extra.

  • Ecovacs Goat O800 RTKYes

Ecovacs lists Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for connecting the Goat O800 RTK to its app.

Good to know: Maker's spec, UK site.

  • Mammotion Luba 3 AWDYes

The Luba 3 AWD has a built-in 4G module with 3 years of free 4G data; after that a subscription is required. Its NetRTK positioning through Mammotion's iNavi service is free for the product's lifetime.

Good to know: Maker's terms; the price of the 4G subscription after 3 years isn't on the page.

  • Segway NavimowYes

Segway says the Navimow i Series uses Network RTK over cellular data at no extra cost, with no local antenna; features like live location tracking need its separate Access+ 4G module.

Good to know: European site; Network RTK coverage depends on your area.

Why it matters

Wi-Fi rarely reaches the far end of a garden, and buyers want to know whether that breaks the mower, or whether they'll pay for a data plan later.
