Does a robot mower need a subscription?
Short answer
Not to mow, but some charge for mobile data later. Husqvarna says its Automower SIM gives 10 years of free connectivity with no running costs. Mammotion includes 3 years of free 4G on its 2026 LUBA models and calls the service optional. Segway's Navimow positioning data is free, but its optional Access+ 4G module costs €29.90 a year after the first year in Germany. Ecovacs' Goat O800 page lists only Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and mentions no plan.
Which robots can do it?
- Husqvarna Automower 410 iQYes
Husqvarna says the SIM it fits in Automower mowers with mobile connectivity gives free connectivity for 10 years, with no separate carrier contract and no running costs for Automower Connect; the 410 iQ lists cellular connectivity through that app.
Good to know: Maker's support article for all connected Automower models, not the 410 iQ by name; the 10 years assume Automower Connect keeps supporting the mobile network in your market.
- Mammotion LUBA mini 2 AWDYes
Mammotion's 4G terms include a 4G module and 3 years of free data with the LUBA mini 2 AWD.
Good to know: Maker's terms for products sold after January 5, 2026; older 2025 models got 1 year, and the price after the free period isn't stated.
- Mammotion Luba 3 AWDYes
Mammotion's 4G terms include a 4G module and 3 years of free data with the LUBA 3 AWD; Mammotion says the 4G service isn't mandatory, and its NetRTK positioning is free for the product's lifetime.
Good to know: Maker's terms for products sold after January 5, 2026 (European site); the price after 3 years isn't stated in the terms.
- Segway NavimowYes
Segway says the Navimow i Series gets Network RTK with its cellular data at no extra cost. Its optional Access+ 4G module, for theft protection and tracking, includes one year of 4G data, then €29.90 a year through the Navimow app.
Good to know: Price from Segway's German store; no US price shown.
Why it matters
A robot mower already costs thousands, and buyers want to know whether an app, GPS or data plan will add a yearly bill on top.

How we know (7 sources)
US support article on cellular operators and SIM cards for Automower, read Oct 26, 2026: mowers that connect to Automower Connect over a mobile network carry a Husqvarna SIM (an eSIM on models with mobile connectivity) that gives free connectivity for 10 years, as long as Automower Connect keeps supporting the mobile network technology in your market and a network supplier exists in your area. The Automower Connect service is free, no separate carrier contract is needed and Husqvarna says there are no running costs; all data traffic is included, though you can't see a remaining balance. Models with an AI Vision camera on a wire-free EPOS setup use considerably more data than basic boundary-wire models. Where coverage is weak you can fit a physical SIM from a local operator. No models are listed by name.
Read the sourceMammotion's 4G service terms (European site), read Oct 26, 2026: for products on sale after January 5, 2026, the LUBA 3 AWD, LUBA mini 2 AWD, LUBA mini AWD LiDAR and YUKA mini 2 800 include a 4G module and 3 years of free data; the YUKA mini 2 500, 600 and 1000 get 3 years of free data but the module is sold separately. 2025 models such as the LUBA 2 AWD X and YUKA list 1 year, and an older pre-January 5 policy gave some mini models only 1 month. Mammotion says the 4G service is not mandatory and that Antenna Over Datalink mode can be used for precise positioning instead. The service includes 60 minutes of FPV yard monitoring a month; you can't use your own SIM. The price after the free period sits on a separate linked page and isn't stated in the terms, which also don't say which features stop if you don't renew.
Read the sourceNavimow store page for the Access+ (App) module (German, read Oct 26, 2026): for the Navimow i Series, adding 4G connectivity and theft protection. It has a built-in SIM with one year of free 4G data; after that you can subscribe to data in the Navimow app for €29.90 a year. The same page says Network RTK access is included at no extra cost, with the cellular data it needs provided free. No US price shown.
Read the sourceUS product page for the Automower 410 iQ, read Oct 22, 2026: from $2,599.99, for lawns up to about half an acre (±20%), and slopes up to 45%. The page lists no camera-based obstacle detection. Re-read Oct 24, 2026: Husqvarna says its Automower iQ mowers "operate rain or shine"; IPX5 protection rating; connectivity listed as cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, controlled through the Automower Connect app. Safety features listed: anti-theft alarm, GPS theft tracking through the Connect app, GeoFence, PIN code and lift sensor. Re-read Oct 25, 2026: in the app's virtual map you set cutting areas, stay-out zones and pathways, and choose random, striped, checkerboard and other systematic mowing patterns; the specs list 0.5 acre for systematic mowing versus 0.25 acre for irregular areas. The page doesn't describe cutting close to edges. Cutting height about 1 to 4 in, adjusted electrically from the Automower Connect app; the page doesn't mention tall grass.
Read the sourceUS LUBA mini 2 AWD page (read Oct 25, 2026): regular price $1,999 (on sale at $1,799 when read), for lawns up to 0.37 acre. Perimeter-wire-free with no antenna, using 360-degree LiDAR and dual-camera AI vision. All-wheel drive for slopes up to 80%. Avoids 300+ stationary or moving obstacles to protect plants, furniture and pets. IPX6 waterproof with rain detection. Built-in 4G module with 3 years of free data. Re-read later the same day: a fixed 4.7 in edge-cutting disc that reaches to within 2.1 in of a wall, and "Auto Multi-Zone Mapping" with map editing that doesn't require starting over. Cutting height: Standard Version 0.8 to 2.6 in, High Version 2.2 to 4.0 in; no maximum grass height is stated.
Read the sourceUS product page for the Luba 3 AWD, read Oct 22, 2026: from $2,399 (0.37 acre) to $3,299 (1.25 acres). All-wheel drive for slopes up to 80% (38.6°). Navigation by 360° LiDAR, network RTK and dual-camera AI vision; Mammotion says it detects obstacles and pets as it mows and recognizes 300+ obstacle types. Re-read Oct 24, 2026: lists IPX6 waterproofing and rain detection. Built-in 4G module with 3 years of free 4G data, after which a subscription is needed; NetRTK positioning through its iNavi service is free for the product's lifetime. Re-read Oct 25, 2026: the Standard Version cuts at 1.0 to 2.7 in and the High Version at 2.2 to 4.0 in.
Read the sourceNavimow i Series product page (European site, read Oct 22, 2026): RTK plus vision navigation without wires or antenna, for lawns of 500–800 m². Climbs slopes up to 30%. VisionFence uses a 140° fisheye camera and AI to tell grass from obstacles such as pets, furniture and garden tools. Re-read Oct 24, 2026: "Intelligent Weather Responsiveness" watches real-time weather forecasts and, on significant weather changes, pauses mowing and returns to the dock to protect the lawn from wet grass. Network RTK over cellular data is included at no extra cost (coverage depends on postcode); extended connectivity such as live location tracking needs the separate Navimow Access+ 4G module. Security: an app-activated safety lock disables the start button, a lifted alarm notifies you when the mower is picked up or moved, an out-of-boundary alarm warns when it leaves its zones, and real-time GPS tracking (out-of-boundary alerts and tracking need the Access+ 4G module).
