Can you leave a robot mower outside in winter?
Short answer
Mostly no. Husqvarna and Segway both say to clean the mower, charge it and store it indoors, dry and frost-free, over winter. Some outdoor parts can stay: Husqvarna's EPOS reference station and boundary wires, Navimow's station pegs and antenna base. Mammotion is the exception: it asks for a dry spot out of rain and snow, and brings the LUBA 3 AWD indoors only where winters regularly drop below -20°C (-4°F).
Which robots can do it?
- Husqvarna Automower 410 iQYes
Husqvarna's Automower winter guide says to fully charge the mower, switch it off and store it, the charging station and the power supply indoors, dry and above freezing; most models need no charging while stored.
Good to know: Guide for all Automower models (UK site, Jul 30, 2026), not the 410 iQ by name. Wire-free EPOS reference stations and boundary wires can stay outside.
- Mammotion Luba 3 AWDYes
Mammotion's LUBA 3 AWD winter article says to store the mower clean, dry and away from direct rain and snow, charged to about 80%, and to move the mower, charging station and power supply indoors where temperatures regularly fall below -20°C (-4°F).
Good to know: Maker's blog (Jul 27, 2026); it doesn't name a storage place such as a garage.
- Segway NavimowYes
Segway's guide for the Navimow i2 AWD says to charge the mower to at least 85%, put it into hibernation and store it and the charging station in a dry, frost-proof indoor place between 5°C and 45°C (41°F to 113°F).
Good to know: Guide for the i2 AWD model of the i Series. The pegs marking the station spot stay in the ground.
- Segway Navimow X3Yes
Segway's Navimow X3 winter guide says to clean the mower, charge it to at least 85%, pack it and the charging station and keep the boxed mower inside the house.
Good to know: The guide gives no storage temperature. The antenna pole, or a wall-mounted antenna, can stay outside.
Why it matters
A robot mower lives in the yard all season, so owners want to know whether it can sit out the winter on its dock or has to be packed away.
Not proven yet
What happens to a mower that does stay out through a freezing winter; none of the makers' guides says whether that voids the warranty, and we haven't found a test.
How we know (4 sources)
Navimow X3 winter storage guide (help center, updated Dec 22, 2025, read Oct 28, 2026): clean the mower, charge it to at least 85%, unplug and pack the charging station, and keep the boxed mower inside the house; items with exposed connectors go indoors too. The GNSS antenna comes off but its pole stays in the ground; a wall-mounted antenna can stay. No storage temperature is given.
Read the sourceNavimow i2 AWD winter storage guide (help center, updated Feb 13, 2026, read Oct 28, 2026): remove the blades, brush and rinse the mower and let it dry, charge it to at least 85% and use "Begin hibernating". Pack the mower and charging station and store them in a dry, frost-proof indoor place between 5°C (41°F) and 45°C (113°F). The four silicone pegs marking the station stay in the ground; a wall- or roof-mounted antenna stays up under a cover, and a ground antenna's base stays in place.
Read the sourceMammotion's LUBA 3 AWD winter maintenance article (read Oct 28, 2026): store the mower clean and dry in a well-ventilated place away from direct rain, snow and excess humidity, charged to about 80%. It doesn't name a place such as a garage. If winter temperatures regularly fall below -20°C (-4°F), move the mower, charging station and power supply indoors. Don't clean it with a high-pressure washer.
Read the sourceHusqvarna's winter storage guide for Automower (UK site, read Oct 28, 2026): fully charge the mower, switch it off and store it, the charging station and the power supply indoors, dry and above freezing (above 0°C/32°F). Most models need no charging in storage; some older ones need charging every three months. The EPOS reference station of wire-free models is weatherproof and can stay outside all year; the NERA charging station's baseplate stays outdoors and only its top comes in; boundary wires stay in the ground. For wire-free setups the page also describes leaving the station outdoors with power connected to keep virtual boundaries, so its advice on the station isn't fully consistent.
