Does a smart thermostat work with Apple Home?
Short answer
Both we track do. ecobee's Smart Thermostat Premium lists Apple HomeKit support, and the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) joins Apple Home through Matter by scanning its QR code.
Which products can do it?
- Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)Yes
Google says the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) is Matter-certified, so any Matter app can change its temperature and mode; Tom's Guide names Apple Home as one of them.
Good to know: Through Matter, not a native Apple integration. Google's post and the review are from August 2024.
- ecobee Smart Thermostat PremiumYes
ecobee lists Apple HomeKit among the platforms the Smart Thermostat Premium works with, next to Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings.
Good to know: Maker's description. Using Siri on the thermostat needs a HomePod or HomePod mini and iOS 15 or later.
Why it matters
iPhone households want the thermostat in the same Home app as their lights and locks, but Google's Nest thermostats used to stay inside Google's own app.
Not proven yet
Which Nest features show up in Apple Home over Matter; Google only describes temperature and mode control from other Matter apps. We haven't read a test of either thermostat in Apple Home.
