I want AI to work inside my email and files

Connectors and plugins let assistants work where your stuff is. Here's how, and what you give access to.

Can an AI assistant work inside your other apps?

Yes. Claude has connectors, ChatGPT has plugins with connected apps, and Gemini has Connected Apps. They can read your data and take actions, with your permission.

In stores now

  • Anthropic Claude

Claude's connectors (built on MCP) reach apps like Slack, Linear and Google Drive, for all users.

  • OpenAI ChatGPT

ChatGPT plugins bundle skills and connected apps such as Slack; the plugin directory is available on every plan.

  • Google Gemini

Gemini's Connected Apps can summarize Gmail, add calendar events, play Spotify and control Google Home devices.

Coming or still in demos

Nothing announced beyond what's in stores.

Why it's hard: How reliably each assistant picks the right app and action; no independent test yet.

Can you build your own AI plugin without coding?

Yes. Claude offers Plugin Create and ChatGPT offers Plugin Creator: you describe the workflow in chat and the assistant builds the plugin.

In stores now

  • Anthropic Claude

Plugin Create helps you build custom Claude plugins that bundle skills, connectors and sub-agents.

  • OpenAI ChatGPT

Plugin Creator builds a ChatGPT plugin from a description, with skills, connected apps or both.

Coming or still in demos

Why it's hard: How far you can get without technical help for plugins that connect to private systems.
