Cordless pool robots: 4 things to check first
Oct 23, 2026 · 6 sourcesCordless pool robots have come a long way: no cable to tangle, and some now clean the surface too. But they differ on four things that decide whether they actually save you work. Here's what reviewers found and what the makers promise, robot by robot.
1. Walls and the waterline
The grime ring at the waterline is what floor-only cleaners miss. In hands-on reviews, the Beatbot AquaSense 2 and Aiper Scuba X1 both climbed walls and scrubbed the waterline, and Bob Vila's testers found the Mova Rover X10 cleans floor, walls, waterline, steps and surface.
Reviewers also hit limits: the AquaSense 2 struggled around protruding wall jets, and the Scuba X1 sometimes needed two passes.

2. Runtime per charge
Beatbot rates the AquaSense 2 at up to 4 hours of floor cleaning, and it ran over 3.5 hours in Freshly Charged's review. Beatbot rates the Sora 70 at up to 5 hours on the floor or 7 hours skimming the surface.
If your pool is large, compare runtime with the pool size the maker lists; Beatbot gives up to 3,230 sq ft for the AquaSense 2.

3. Leaves on the surface
Floating leaves and bugs sink before most floor cleaners reach them. In a month of testing in a Florida pool, Bob Vila's testers saw the Sora 70 collect floating debris in skimming mode, and the Rover X10 handled floating debris too.
Neither skims all day like a dedicated floating skimmer.

4. Getting it out of the pool
Owners complain most about lifting a heavy, wet robot from the deep end. Beatbot's AquaSense 2 parks above the water when it's done and drains as you lift it, and the Sora 70 floats to the edge for pickup.
The Aiper Scuba X1 comes with a retrieval hook; parking at the waterline needs a separate accessory that AOL's tester put at about $500. Testers called the Rover X10 one of the heaviest robots they tried.
