Can a robot mower work without a boundary wire?
Husqvarna lists the Automower 410 iQ among its EPOS models that mow without a boundary wire.
Good to know: Uses RTK satellite positioning; heavy shade may need some wire.
Does a robot mower collect or mulch the clippings?
Husqvarna says Automower clippings are so small they don't need collecting: they fall to the soil and mulch as natural fertilizer, which it says gives a denser, healthier lawn.
Good to know: Maker's description of all Automower models, not a test. Husqvarna also says to cut an overgrown lawn down before a robot takes over.
Does a robot mower need a subscription?
Husqvarna says the SIM it fits in Automower mowers with mobile connectivity gives free connectivity for 10 years, with no separate carrier contract and no running costs for Automower Connect; the 410 iQ lists cellular connectivity through that app.
Good to know: Maker's support article for all connected Automower models, not the 410 iQ by name; the 10 years assume Automower Connect keeps supporting the mobile network in your market.
Does a robot mower need Wi-Fi?
Husqvarna lists cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for the Automower 410 iQ, controlled through the Automower Connect app. Safety features listed: anti-theft alarm, GPS theft tracking through the Connect app, GeoFence, PIN code and lift sensor.

How big a lawn can a robot mower handle?
Husqvarna rates the Automower 410 iQ for lawns up to about half an acre (±20%).
Good to know: Maker's figure. From $2,599.99.
How we know (10 sources)
Husqvarna's winter storage guide for Automower (UK site, read Oct 28, 2026): fully charge the mower, switch it off and store it, the charging station and the power supply indoors, dry and above freezing (above 0°C/32°F). Most models need no charging in storage; some older ones need charging every three months. The EPOS reference station of wire-free models is weatherproof and can stay outside all year; the NERA charging station's baseplate stays outdoors and only its top comes in; boundary wires stay in the ground. For wire-free setups the page also describes leaving the station outdoors with power connected to keep virtual boundaries, so its advice on the station isn't fully consistent.
Read the sourceUS product page for the Automower 410 iQ, read Oct 22, 2026: from $2,599.99, for lawns up to about half an acre (±20%), and slopes up to 45%. The page lists no camera-based obstacle detection. Re-read Oct 24, 2026: Husqvarna says its Automower iQ mowers "operate rain or shine"; IPX5 protection rating; connectivity listed as cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, controlled through the Automower Connect app. Safety features listed: anti-theft alarm, GPS theft tracking through the Connect app, GeoFence, PIN code and lift sensor. Re-read Oct 25, 2026: in the app's virtual map you set cutting areas, stay-out zones and pathways, and choose random, striped, checkerboard and other systematic mowing patterns; the specs list 0.5 acre for systematic mowing versus 0.25 acre for irregular areas. The page doesn't describe cutting close to edges. Cutting height about 1 to 4 in, adjusted electrically from the Automower Connect app; the page doesn't mention tall grass.
Read the sourceHusqvarna's EPOS page: satellite (RTK) positioning lets Automower models mow inside virtual boundaries with no boundary wire. Lists models including the 410 iQ, 420 iQ and 440 iQ. Notes some wire may still help in heavy shade.
Read the sourceHusqvarna support article on preparing the lawn and Automower for the season (Australian site, read Oct 25, 2026): wait until the grass is 5 to 7 cm (2 to 2.8 in) tall before the first mow, start with a high cutting height and lower it gradually, because cutting too short stresses the grass. Selected models offer TargetHeight in the Automower Connect app, which lowers the cutting height step by step on its own. The article doesn't cover mowing tall grass.
Read the sourceHusqvarna guide to cutting an overgrown lawn (New Zealand site, read Oct 25, 2026): take off about half the height on the first cut, with a line trimmer for knee-high grass; trim again a few days later to about 6 inches; mow about 8 days after the first cut and lower the height by about a third each time. Only after that does it suggest a robot mower, to keep the lawn at height on a schedule.
Read the sourceHusqvarna explainer on where Automower clippings go (Australian site, read Oct 26, 2026): the mower keeps short grass short, cutting a few millimeters at a time with three sharp blades as the grass grows, so the clippings are small enough to stay on the lawn, where they break down as mulch and natural fertilizer. Contrasts this with bagging clippings after a traditional mow. Doesn't mention leaves or wet grass.
Read the sourceHusqvarna robotic mower FAQ (Irish site, read Oct 26, 2026): the clippings don't need collecting or raking; they mulch into the soil, which Husqvarna says gives a denser, healthier lawn and reduces the need for synthetic fertilizer, and robotic cutting gives finer grass cut at a consistent height. No test data; doesn't cover leaves.
Read the sourceUS support article on cellular operators and SIM cards for Automower, read Oct 26, 2026: mowers that connect to Automower Connect over a mobile network carry a Husqvarna SIM (an eSIM on models with mobile connectivity) that gives free connectivity for 10 years, as long as Automower Connect keeps supporting the mobile network technology in your market and a network supplier exists in your area. The Automower Connect service is free, no separate carrier contract is needed and Husqvarna says there are no running costs; all data traffic is included, though you can't see a remaining balance. Models with an AI Vision camera on a wire-free EPOS setup use considerably more data than basic boundary-wire models. Where coverage is weak you can fit a physical SIM from a local operator. No models are listed by name.
Read the sourceNavimow X3 winter storage guide (help center, updated Dec 22, 2025, read Oct 28, 2026): clean the mower, charge it to at least 85%, unplug and pack the charging station, and keep the boxed mower inside the house; items with exposed connectors go indoors too. The GNSS antenna comes off but its pole stays in the ground; a wall-mounted antenna can stay. No storage temperature is given.
Read the sourceNavimow X3 Series page (European site, read Oct 25, 2026): Segway says the X3 handles slopes of up to 50%. Visual sensing detects and avoids pets, children, garden decorations and outdoor furniture. Four security features, including outside-of-boundary alarms and lift alerts, and GPS tracking to find the mower in the Navimow app.
